J'avais installé Ubuntu 12.04 sur VMware workstation 7 en utilisant le "mode facile" de VMware. Une fois l'installation terminée, VMware a installé les outils VMware automatiquement et le message suivant bloquait l'accès à la machine en interface graphique:

version of Ubuntu you are installing, you may

intallation. Otherwise, please wait for the

Pour pouvoir reprendre la main il faut effectuer les 3 étapes suivantes:
- Restaurer le fichier /etc/issue > sudo mv /etc/issue.backup /etc/issue
- Restaurer le fichier /etc/rc.local > sudo vm /etc/rc.local.backup /etc/rc.local
- Restaurer le fichier /etc/init/lightdm.conf > sudo mv /opt/vmware-tools-installer/lightdm.conf /etc/init
Et ensuite, rebooter.
